Connect your domain: DNS guides by provider
Two records (an A and a CNAME) at the company that holds your domain. Remo never asks for your password; you add them yourself, following the screens of your provider. Your account shows the same guide with your own domain and the exact values.
your website company
the company that built or hosts your current site holds the domain: ask them in writing for the two records, or for access
1. Write to your website company
Your current site was built or is hosted by a web company, and that company holds yourbusiness.com. Email them, so you have it in writing, and ask for ONE of these: (a) access to the DNS records of yourbusiness.com, or (b) that they set the two records in the next step. Do not cancel anything yet.2. Send them the exact records
Paste these two lines in the email: A record, Name@, Value147.182.236.145. CNAME record, Namewww, Valuesites.remobuilds.com. Ask them not to touch MX or TXT rows: that is your email.3. If they give you access instead
Sign in where they tell you and look for DNS, DNS Records or Zone Editor. Edit the A record for @ to147.182.236.145; point www with a CNAME tosites.remobuilds.com. Tell me in the chat which company's screen you are on and I'll give you that provider's exact steps.4. Do not cancel before the domain is yours
Keep paying them until yourbusiness.com shows the new site AND the domain is registered in your name: ask in writing for the transfer into your name if it is not. Some website companies register the domain in their own name and stop renewing it the day you cancel, and some include your email in the package: ask where your email lives before you cancel anything.5. Come back and check
Once they confirm, press Check my domain here. I re-check every 30 seconds while you're on this page.
Watch out
- Never delete or edit MX or TXT rows: that is your email. Leave an A row named mail alone too.
- Ask in writing (email) and keep the reply: access, the two records, or the transfer of the domain into your name.
- Do not cancel the website contract before the domain is in your name: some agencies register it in their own name and stop renewing it when the service ends.
- If their package includes your email, canceling can take the email down with the website: ask first where your email lives.
- Never let them change the nameservers or delete MX or TXT rows: that is your email.
They say they can't or won't
Ask for the transfer of the domain into your name (the authorization code from the registrar). Tell me in the chat what they answered and I'll give you the next step.
I'm not sure which company it is
Look at the renewal invoice for the website or the domain, or at the footer of your current site ("site by …"). Tell me the name and I'll adapt the steps.
