Upload your site: guides by host
The site you own is one flat zip: index.html at the top, one CSS file, your photos. These are the screens of each host; your account shows the same steps with your own file names.
Gandi
gandi.net → Simple Hosting → your instance → sFTP (port 22, deploy token); no File Manager
1. Open your hosting's sFTP details
Go to gandi.net, sign in, open Simple Hosting and your instance. Note the sFTP Server, Login and create a Deploy token (your password for sFTP). Gandi has no File Manager: the steps use FileZilla.2. Connect with FileZilla
In FileZilla: Host (the Server), Username (Login), Password (the Deploy token), Port 22 → Quickconnect. Open the folder your site uses (the Directory shown on the instance, usuallyhtdocs[NV]).3. Back up first
Drag the whole web folder to your computer: that copy is your backup.4. Move the old site out of the web folder
On the server createold-siteone level above the web folder and drag every old file and folder into it.5. Upload the zip and extract it
Unzipyourbusiness-remo.zipon your computer and drag everything inside it into the web folder: index.html at its root.6. Make sure index.html is the front page
Look in the Directory shown in your hosting for an oldindex.php,index.htm,default.htmlordefault.php. If one is still there, move it intoold-site: a server shows those beforeindex.html.the Directory shown in your hosting/index.htmlmust sit directly in the Directory shown in your hosting, not inside a folder.7. Open your site
Open https://yourbusiness.com in a private window and click a few menu links. If the old site still shows, press Ctrl+F5; if it still does, an oldindex.phporindex.htmis left in the Directory shown in your hosting (previous step).8. Keep the padlock (HTTPS)
Gandi issues the certificate on the instance's domain settings; if the padlock is missing, check the SSL option of the instance. If the site opens ashttp://without the padlock, ask me in the chat for the three-line.htaccessredirect, or turn on your host's Force HTTPS switch.
Watch out
- The zip is flat: extract it IN the web folder and index.html lands at the root. If your panel created a folder with the site inside, open it, select all, Move to the web folder.
- An old index.php, index.htm or default.html left next to index.html wins: move it into old-site.
- Show Hidden Files before moving anything: a WordPress .htaccess left behind sends visitors to the old index.php.
- old-site belongs OUTSIDE the web folder (your home folder). Inside it, an old WordPress stays public and runnable.
- Never delete the old files: Compress → Download first, then Move. Moving them back undoes everything.
- Your email does not live in these folders; nothing here touches it. Do not cancel the old hosting if your email runs there (ask me).
- No File Manager at Gandi: an SFTP client (FileZilla, free) is the tool.
- The web folder's name is the Directory shown on the instance; [NV] whether it is htdocs on every plan.
